Just Went Black line-up changes
As announced yesterday while sharing stage with Negative Approach guitarist Ole left Just Went Black and got replaced by Padde, who already played a tour with the band before. Please note this is not just another line-up change, from the beginning on Ole was the main songwriter of Just Went Black - this might cause some musically changes in Just Went Black?! Time will tell us. Just Went Black are still alive and are going to record their follow-up to „embracing emptiness“ in November. [benni]

Newsflash June, 17th
Nein Nein Nein and Matula got a video tour diary online here and a split 12” out on Zeitstrafe.

The new Kettcar single „nullsummenspiel“ might be interesting as it features six remixes of „graceland“ by artists like Egotronic, Frittenbude or Plemo. The latter can be downloadexd for free on the Kettcar myspace page. The other remixes you can listen to at the same page. Audiolith records represent!

The JUZ Verden is facing its end. The town of Verden has cancelled the treaties to October, 1st. As the JUZ got a tradition of 30 years and self-organized are always worth fighting for there will be resistance. The first demo is scheduled for June, 29th. For more information go here!

The district attorney of Stuttgart(D), who has already been behind the accusation of Nix Gut Records for the use of a crossed out swastika, put someone into prison on remand for four weeks and now requests two months of jail because the letter S on the man’s Schleimkeim baseball cap was similar to the logo of the SS. Maybe he should incarcerate everyone at the next Kiss show as well… To quote Slime: “Ich glaube eher an die Unschuld einer Hure als an die Gerechtigkeit der deutschen Justiz!”

Lock & Key from Boston(US) will release a self-titled posthumous record on the small label Get A Life. Good thing. They were a good band and more than just a Hot Water Music rip-off… More information and streamable music here.

The whole new Verse record “aggression” can be streamed here.

Escapado shot a video for the song “was du erwartet hast”. Watch it here!

Or you can watch a video from Smoke Blow’s release show for their new record “colossus” in Kiel here!

No more release shows we’ll see by The Creetins. The band called it quits and cancelled all shows.

Sinking Ships will play to farewell shows before breaking up very soon.

Vinyl collector’s might be interested in the colabo 7” of Chuck Ragan and Nagel (Muff Potter, Freunde der Nacht/Ruhe” that just came out. Originally it was scheduled for the tour they did together last year but it took a little longer… It can be purched in selected record stores and through the Muff Potter website. Listen to one song here!

Callejon signed to Nuclear Blast. Aha…

Sad news from Santiago de Chile. The self-organized library and infoshop Emma Goldman does no longer exist. The restaurant Naitún in whose basement the shop was situated changed hands and the new owners don’t seem to be too fond of anarchists in their basement…

Cursed call it quits
Cursed, one of Canada's finest hardcore bands if not one of the finest in general, has decided to part ways. Read the official statement:

"Yeah, you heard. Apparently, it gets even worse. That's all I know or even want to know for now. We got robbed at the very end of tour in a totally unreal, extremely sketchy series of events that still makes no sense at all, only leads to paranoia, anger and a total loss of faith. Passports, money, all the costs of the tour. Either way, whoever did it, it was a bullet in the head, the end of the line. A sudden and totally fucked up way for it to end, which I know will be fitting when I look back on it. All we could do was play the show, badly, and go our ways with whatever money we could muster. I hitched a ride back to Prague with Tomas. Since I can't do a fucking thing about it, I'm going to hang out with my girl, and friends, stare at some Czech mountains and try not to think about it. Needless to say, all outstanding plans are off. All this shit aside, thanks to everyone that helped out and travelled from all over for the shows on this tour, all the kids and bands we played and stayed with. Minus a few fucked up shows, it was probably the best tour we ever had. Thanks everyone for your good wishes. I'll elaborate when I'm home next week, for now - yes it's true, and yes it's over."

Young man killed by nazis in Verona(I)
In the night before the 1st of May a young man of 29 years got attacked by a group of neonazis in Verona (Northern Italy). The victim, Nicola Tommasoli, fell into a coma that he will never wake up from again. On May 4th one of the attackers (19) surrendered himself to the police. He is part of the fascist Ultrà of Hellas Verona.

According to the police three of the five offenders are in custody by now. At least one of the them is linked to the Veneto Fronte Skinheads, a group that has been spotted at international nazi rallies like the Rudolf Hess march or the annual revisionist rally in Dresden(D). Verona is known as a stronghold of the separationist and anti-immigrant Lega Nord.

yitnp.com launches "behind the lenses"
After months of work:

YITNP launches "behind the lenses - a series on visual arts"!

"Ever noticed this tiny subtitle on our main page?! "Life is art, be creative" was one of our guidelines when we started yellowisthenewpink.com some years ago. Behind the lenses is a series focussing on being creative in the music scene (in the broadest sense) without sticking around in a band. This run of interviews is about the art of flattening the three dimensional space in which all music takes place into the two dimensions of a photograph.

Sure, today’s torrent of images reached undreamt of quantities: no concert without hundreds of flashlights, band photos on every zine’s page, massive pictorial postings on every messageboard, not to talk of flickr, myspace or youtube. Yet a small quotient of photographers is worth to speak of while the majority falls into digital camera clichés: as they focus on snapshots of stage acting, bands posing and rocking out only. No aestaetical surplus is achieved, hence only a evanescent amount of pictures is actually worth to talk of.

Behind the lenses is basically about creating a platform for those photographers who stand out of this ocean of boredom and get them talking about their work, their inspiration and their aims. No matter if it is a professional, a poor punk kid or a d.i.y. activist ten thousand miles away."

Starting with an interview with photgrapher Thomas Reitmayer (Glow In The Dark Magazin) we will bring you one new interview every month! [benni]

Sonic Youth exhibition about to hit Europe
The museum exhibition SONIC YOUTH ETC. : SENSATIONAL FIX focuses on the multidisciplinary activities of Sonic Youth since the band's formation in 1981. It features the band's collaborations with visual artists, filmmakers, designers and musicians, as well as a choice of other works selected by the band. Through the multidisciplinary output of Sonic Youth and related works by other artists in the exhibition, an alternative history of contemporary culture is being uncovered in which the division between 'high art' and 'low art' is being called into question, while issues are explored such as teenage rebellion, adolescent wanderlust, gender, fame, fashion, sexuality, and religion. The exhibition is initiated and curated by freelance curator Roland Groenenboom in collaboration with the band and will be presented at LiFE, St. Nazaire, France (from 17 June to 7 September 2008), MUSEION , Bolzano, Italy (from 10 October 2008 to 4 January 2009), and Kunsthalle Dusseldorf, Germany (31 January to 26 April 2009). Further venues are currently in discussion, in Europe, the US and Asia. A complete description of the show can be found here.

Against Me! will support Dropkick Murphys on their tour in Germany. We are very, very sorry. They really deserve better! Only reason to go there might be buying their new single "stop!" that is limited to 5000 copies (wow, that’s really damn limited…) and officially only sold on tour. You can listen to the flipside on their myspace page.

You can also listen to the whole new Why? album "alopecia" here.

In Ohio some members of Arcade Fire played a show in support of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. Wait! Aren’t they Canadian?!?

I Defy from Hannover will split up in April.

Animal Collective will release a new four track ep on May, 5th. Cool.

Mike Patton got another new band called Crudo. Whatever…

GSL call it quits
After 14 year of releasing high-quality punkrock Gold Standard Laboratories (The Mars-Volta, !!!, The Locust, Year Future, The Rapture) call it quits. Read the official statement:

"October 2007 marks the 14th anniversary of GSL's first release. Between that time and now, we've had some incredible opportunities, worked with some exceptional artists, and weathered our fair share of highs and lows. In recent years, we've experienced the onset of factors that have seriously limited our ability to maintain what we feel is the essence of the label; the experimental attitude and artistic freewheeling of times past are simply no longer sustainable. Rather than compromise our goals and beliefs, or allow our course to be charted by financial constraint and an industry in flux, we've decided the time has come for GSL to cease releasing new music, and to close this chapter of our story. We've spent the better part of the past year considering this decision. The recent passing of Factory Records founder Tony Wilson, whose singular example and influence on GSL cannot be understated, came as something of a cosmic reinforcement of our instinctual belief that GSL's time has come and gone. The fact that the original Factory Records itself lasted just 14 years may only be a coincidence, although we choose to see it differently. If one day the right opportunity presents itself, who knows, GSL may re-emerge. Only time will tell. In the meantime, most of our back catalog will continue to be available both physically and online; from now on mailorder will be in the hands of Redeye Distribution/11spot.com

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who has supported our efforts throughout the years, not the least of all the bands who have, in many cases, exercised enormous degrees of patience with us, as well as to the loyal music fans who have been brave enough to follow their instincts and peek under a rock or two every now and then. We could not have lasted this long without you.

Let the spirit of perseverance thrive in the face of adversity." [benni]

Life At These Speeds call it quits
The best band I've seen in many months has called it quits. I'm close to crying. Official statement:

One last time, blog...

Life At These Speeds has run its course, the band shall play no more. The end has been in sight for some time and though due to no ill occurrence, the moment has passed and the amps are turned off.

We feel as though LATS was a very worthy venture, as evidenced, if by nothing else, than by the length of the list of friends we owe to its existence. A great many thanks are heaped upon each and every one, known and unkown. These sentiments are conveyed with the utmost sincerity and with the hope that we shall meet again in the future.

As always, take great care,
Life At These Speeds
